- Crayons and colored pencils
- Activity tuneTOON® and tuneTOON®
- Song/lyrics “Fun Time At Play Time”
- Expression cards
- Magazines

Goals:
- Children learn to value and appreciate own abilities and their own body.
- Children learn how to work together and take turns.
- Children use and improve fine motor skills.
- Children learn the similarities and difference between them in their play preferences.
Beginning:
- Have the children gather in a circle and say, “Dolfi wants to share with us the fun in playing outside. Dolfi learns a lot when it plays outside. Being outside provides us opportunity to play and exercise. Let’s join Dolfi in singing the song: ‘Fun Time At Play Time.’” Refer to the song chart as you sing. Repeat the song with movements and encourage the children to imitate you.
- Introduce the book called Are You Ready to Play Outside? by Mo Willems to the children. Say, “This is a story about Gerald and Piggie who have plans to play outside and then the rain came and Piggie was very, very upset.” Use the expression cards to identify the emotion. Read the story and ask the children to reflect on the story. Listen to and acknowledge the children’s observations. Say: “Dolfi wants to encourage us to play more outdoors. Let’s make a list of the activities you love to do outside on a rainy or sunny day.” Write or draw all the activities as mentioned by children on the board.
Middle:
- Tell children that they are going to make their own booklet on “What I Love To Do Outside.” Give each child a template and encourage children to find pictures in magazines describing the activities they love doing outside and assist them to make their own booklet by cutting, gluing, adding drawings, and decorating.
- Have each child add as many pages as he/she needs for the booklet. Help the child write his/her name on the cover page and connect the pages by making a hole at the edge and tying a string.
End:
- Have Dolfi join the children and lead them in singing the song again.
Extend:
- Leave the book Are You Ready to Play Outside? by Mo Willems in the play area/library for the children to read.
- Have children make a collage divided into two parts: rainy day activities and sunny day activities.
- Have children display their booklets to share at the reading area and spend time reading their stories to each other.
- Have children compare the similarities and differences among them of the activities they like to do on rainy and sunny days.
