Picture Walk

Children will learn how to become friends with someone.

Materiales:

  • Song: “Dolfi Theme Song- Emotional”
  • Dolfi the Puppet
  • The book “Friends” by Helme Heine
  • Animal Card Pre-Made Material
  • Chart Paper

Metas:

  • To initiate and participate in cooperative activities with peers, sharing and taking turns
  • To form closer relationship with a particular child(ren)

Beginning:

  • Gather children together in a circle. Reintroduce Dolfi the puppet.
  • Have Dolfi lead the children in singing “Dolfi Theme Song- Emotional.”
  • Say: I want to tell you a story about three best friends: Charlie the Rooster, Jonny the Mouse and Percy the Pig.
  • Read the story “Friends” by Helme Heine.

Middle:

  • Take a “picture walk” with the children.
  • Ask questions like, who is this? What are these friends doing? What makes them best friends? How do you think the story is going to end? What do you do with your best friend?
  • Give each child an animal card.
  • Say: Hold your card face down and don’t show it to your friends. As I read about your animal, turn your card around so we can all see it.
  • Ask the children to think and find another word that rhymes with the name of the animal on their card.
  • Read the story and allow time for children to show their cards and say a word that rhymes.
  • Write down what each child says.

End:

  • Ask the class: What did you learn about being best friends
  • Dolfi will ask individual children, what makes a best friend
  • Record what each child says on chart paper.
  • End with the song “Dolfi Theme Song- Emotional.”

Extensión:

  • Give each child a two-sided animal picture card with the animal on one side and the tail on the other (have children look at the tail and guess what animal it belongs.
  • Give children animal cards cut in to pieces so they can put them together (as a puzzle), count the pieces.
