Remember When

Domain: Cognitive

In this activity, your child will have an opportunity to reflect on special moments inhis/her life!

Sort, select and plan Bilingual ParentPod™ activities that meet your child’s developmental and learning readiness needs

Materials:

  • Photos from different times in your child’s life
  • Large construction paper
  • White paper
  • Safety scissors
  • Non-toxic glue
  • Yarn
  • A hole-punch

Importance of Activity:

  • Your child will gain a greater awareness of self as he/she hears stories of his/her younger self. Your child will use memory and language skills when recounting what he/she remembers while looking at each photograph. This is a great opportunity for your child to engage in sharing thoughts and feelings with you.

Goals:

  • uses language to communicate
  • interacts with adults cooperatively by sharing and planning activities together
  • strengthening parent-child relationship

Suggested Dialogue:

  • Do you remember this time?
  • This is the first time you ever walked!
  • This picture shows how much I love you. You are so special!
  • Who are the people in this picture?
  • Which one of the pictures do you like the best? Why?
  • What does it remind you of?
  • How do you feel when you look at these pictures?

Instructions:

  1. Sing the song with your child, and place the mat on the playing area.
  2. Gather several photos from your child’s first year of life, and one for every year after the age of one.
  3. Make sure photos are no bigger than 5.5 x 8.5 inches.
  4. Gather the needed materials. Fold the construction paper in half so that it resembles a book cover.
  5. Fold the white paper in half so that it resembles pages in a book. Cut along the fold and place the cut pieces of white paper into a neat stack.
  1. Place the cut pieces of white paper into the folded piece of construction paper. Punch three holes along the folded edge of the construction paper (through each layer) containing the white paper.
  2. Loop the yarn through each hole and tie tightly to finish assembling the book.
  3. Have the child glue one photo to each page of the book in chronological order.
  4. Using the suggested dialogue encourage your child to share memories from when the photos were taken.
  5. After the photo book is complete, encourage your child to share it with others.
  6. Sing the song with your child again.
  7. Clean up together. Fold the playing mat together and put it away.
