The Story:

  • The tuneTOON begins by displaying a blackboard with all of the consonants and vowels written on it.
  • Deli, the teacher, explains to Dolfi, Listo, Stella, Ami, Jelli, and Horsi about the consonants and vowels that make up our alphabet.
  • Deli tells Dolfi and friends that you can’t have words without vowels.
  • Each character then displays a different vowel used in words such as cat, bug, and sit as well as the vowels in their names.

What We Learn:

  • We learn the importance of consonants and vowels in our words.
  • We also learn how to build words, and that consonants and vowels are in every word.

Why it is Important:

  • Child is aware that letters make words and that letters have sounds.
  • They will gain confidence in their abilities to differentiate different letters and sounds.
  • Knowing about vowels and consonants, he/she will be able to more easily pronounce words that have these vowels in them because he/she will have heard them before.
